A. Position Description
Under the direction of the GMC President with the guidance of the Board of Directors,
the Event Coordinator provides support to the Gulfport Merchants Chamber of
Commerce including administrative, clerical and project management activities. Leads
the coordination of marketing special events, fundraising initiatives, volunteer
management and recruiting.

C. Responsibilities
General Overview
The Event Coordinator is expected to be present at each event (unless vacation is pre-
arranged with the responsible Board member) and shall provide the highest level of
customer service to vendors, shoppers, and volunteers, in an enthusiastic manner. As
with all GMC Board members, contractors, and volunteers, the Event Coordinator is an
ambassador for the GMC and the City of Gulfport. In this role, he/she shall establish,
maintain, and strive to improve the professional image of the GMC to create goodwill
and understanding among members and visitors to our city.
Furthermore, the coordinator is responsible for:
Major Duties
1. Coordinated tourism event activities, encouraging a cooperative and
collaborative environment.
2. Provides administrative support including preparation of meeting materials,
communications, and documentation.
3. Compiles and analyzes marketing reports and statistics and then compiles
needed reports for review.
4. Conducts cold calling, attends trade shows, and has experience with brand
awareness, maintenance, and marketing.
5. Meets with event chairs and program participants and conducts market research
and business analytics to identify sales and marketing opportunities; analyzes
market conditions and develops tourism marketing plans.
6. Helps to recruit new volunteers for various opportunities throughout the year.
7. Maintains collateral and brochure inventory at Welcome Center and travel info
centers.
8. Coordinates off-site visitor information booths for special events and trade
shows, as needed.
9. Maintains the website calendar of events, as well as the print calendar to
distribute to community stakeholders.
10. Has a working knowledge of Gulfport hotels, meeting facilities, recreational
centers, senior center, parks, and event venues.
11. Collaborating and responding to the GMC Marketing Chair as needed.
12. Connect with brick-and-mortar businesses, identify community partners, attend
meetings as needed, establish relationships, and maintain communications.
13. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
D. Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills Required by the Position
1. Proficiency in web development software
2. Proficiency with various social media platforms including Facebook and
Instagram.
3. Organizational and time efficiency skills.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people of all ages and
backgrounds.
6. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
7. Ability to consistently meet deadlines and complete tasks with accuracy.
8. Ability to works effectively under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
9. Ability to maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
10. Ability to take initiative in performing job functions.
Minimum qualifications
Associates degree or equivalent education in event planning, tourism, marketing, or
related field; or 2 years related experience in promotion and organization of events.
1. Must be able to work some nights and weekends for meetings and events.
2. Must be willing to travel.
3. Florida Driver’s License required.
