“When we first heard about a city in Florida that has a festival celebrating the gecko, we had to check it out.  What we found was a quaint art village on the water with Old Florida charm.  A throwback from a different era, Gulfport is open to all walks of life.  It felt like home and we made it just that.” – Stephen and Chris

“We got married in our own backyard, almost 10 years ago, because we couldn’t find a better way to share Gulfport with our friends from across the country. Everyone loved Gulfport’s restaurants and downtown as much as we do, charmed by our small village in the midst of an urban existence.  We are still charmed, more so with each passing year. We’re both artists now— Dan is an established songwriter and Juju’s best love is reconditioning 1950’s yard art and painting manatees.  We have an organic garden in the midst of our Florida landscape. The plants? All traded through a citywide garden and art group. We all trade, share and barter everything from cucuzza squash to ball gowns. Where else could you put out a plea for milkweed for your butterflies and have plants delivered to your door? Gulfport is an entire town full of enervated people, building a better community, every day. ”  – Juju & Dan

“If you come to Gulfport, you feel like you’re transplanted to a better world. When I moved here 10 years ago from Europe and opened my little restaurant in Gulfport, I felt immediately at home. Not only because of Gulfport’s perfect location between beautiful St. Petersburg, Tampa airport and pristine beaches, but to me it’s a place where the old world meets the new world. This town is like “Key west incontro Naples, Italy” via Broolyn. You walk the streets of Gulfport on a Tuesday morning with its Fresh Market, outside cafes, seafood smell in the air and people walking their dogs and carrying baskets to collect fresh produce and you think you lived here forever. At nights the town steps up even a bit more with romantic restaurants, art walks, live music, open galleries and fun waterfront bars. I’m not sure why this town is different from others, but I think it’s the spirit of its citizens. They are like village people with strong values but an open and diverse mind. It seems Gulfportians just take it more seriously to stop and smell the roses. There’s a friendliness in them without the mulberry-ness. Plus a good sense of humor, which you need in a town where people walk their goats and have backyard chickens. Don’t believe me? Read the “Gabber!” There’s a reason why so many drive a long distance just to spend a day or an evening in this little town.” – Pia

“This little town, village or whatchamacallit… after living out of the U.S. for so long, returning to the States was so much easier when I found this place chock full of tolerance, caring, creativity, volunteering, beaches, nature preserve, world class restaurants, festivals, music, art… people who really care about the place they live in and I now call home.
