GULFPORT, FLORIDA: Gulfport, Florida’s professional artist community is getting ready to satisfy your ArtJones. Do you want art, make art, gotta have art, love art? Then this inaugural event is for you. On Saturday and Sunday, December 2nd and 3rd, ArtJones, an Open Studio Tour of Gulfport Artists makes its debut with 12 artists at 10 locations. This self-guided, free tour begins 10am – 5pm on Saturday and continues 11am – 4pm on Sunday. ArtJones will highlight the artists’ lives and show the public what inspires the creative process. See it, touch it, buy it.
Among the art forms being expressed, ArtJones has painters, sculptors, ceramicists and glassblowers. Take the afternoon to walk through the various studios and see how the artist life is lived. From the tools used to the techniques mastered, these artists will demystify and sometimes demonstrate where creativity comes from.
ArtJones member artists come from varied backgrounds. Ray Domingo, the poster artist, worked as an illustrator & graphic designer for major advertising companies for over 40 years. Larry Busby, a decorated veteran, has been photographing on the front lines and in nature’s backyard since 1978. Sculptor Tom Pitzen, a locally known mosaic artist, creates large scale public art projects in St. Petersburg and Tampa. Brenda McMahon is an accomplished ceramic artist of more than 20 years who teaches, shows and travels nationally and internationally. Dorian Angello, a former professor of Graphic Design at Ringling College of Art & Design decided to head back to the studio and live the artist’s life.
ArtJones is excited to debut its list of professional artists working in the community. We are artists creating in the rough behind neighborhood fences, down alleys and inside garages. The working artists of this Florida community often show at galleries and art venues around the state and across the nation, but this weekend, ArtJones is strutting its stuff right at home.
This event is free and open to the public. Follow the signs for ArtJones Studio Tour. Download a brochure from the website or pick one up at any business in downtown Gulfport.
