GULFPORT, FLORIDA: Organizers of Gulfport’s annual Gecko Ball have announced the results of public voting for the theme of the 2018 Gecko Ball: “Gecko Con!” The Tenth Annual Gecko Ball will be held next year on Saturday, August 25th at the historic Gulfport Casino Ballroom. The Gecko Ball is one of four whimsical, celebratory Gecko-themed events in late summer each year, beginning with the Art Gecko Show and Gecko Crawl, and ending with GeckoFest, Gulfport’s largest annual free street festival held on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This year, the voters’ choice won by a large margin over other themes that were offered for consideration: “Cirque du Gecko,” “Geckos on Broadway,” “Rock and Roll Geckos,” and “Rocky Horror Gecko Show.”
“Gecko Con” will be a celebration of superheroes, villains, cult characters, imaginary locations and more from comics, books, movies, tv shows, animé and other media in pop culture genres akin to the world of popular Comic Con conventions around the world. The Gecko Con theme offers inspiration for a wide array of costumes, as well as Ball decorations, music, dancing, food and drink. Delve into the world of graphic and colorful comics, fantasy, horror and more! Enjoy a bevy of silent auction items, the popular live auction of artist-created geckos, coronation of a new Gecko Queen and much more. Ball-goers are always encouraged to arrive in costumes and a costume contest at the Ball encourages a healthy competition. Each year, the Gecko Ball theme also lends itself to costumes that participants of GeckoFest will flaunt during the festival’s own walking parade and costume contest the following week.
The Gecko Ball has become known as Gulfport’s party of the year! Tickets to the Ball will go on sale July 4, 2018 and it is known to sell out every year.
