GULFPORT, FLORIDA: After four books and countless magazine columns, award-winning author and humorist Fay Jacobs is touring with a hilarious and moving oral memoir. The reading, titled Aging Gracelessly: 50 Shades of Fay is based on Jacobs’ four published memoirs. The show combines some of her funniest and most entertaining stories with a personal narrative covering relatable tales of relationships, the indignities of aging and the long march towards LGBT equality.
At its core, her performance highlights the insistence that nothing is ever so horrible if it’s worth the story you can tell.
Jacobs will be on stage in Gulfport for one performance only on Friday night March 31 at the Catherine Hickman Theatre (5501 27th Ave. South). The show begins at 7 pm (doors open at 6) and tickets are offered at a suggested donation of $20. The performance will benefit the LGBTQ Resource Center at the Gulfport Public Library. Come early to listen to a live musical performance by Gulfport singer/guitarist Gail Biron at 6 p.m. in the Theater lobby before the show.
After dozens of performances up and down the East Coast, Fay Jacobs has caused quite a buzz, with standing ovations for her shows in New Orleans, Ft. Lauderdale, aboard an Olivia cruise ship and at the famed Duplex Cabaret in New York City.
Critics have been enchanted by her evening of story-telling, dubbing her “the last comic sitting.”
