GULFPORT, FLORIDA: The LGBTQ Resource Center at Gulfport Public Library continues its monthly LGBTQ Film Series on Thursday, July 13th with a “ridiculous and silly, but ultimately very fun comedy” (junkee.com). The series is a free gathering to watch a film in the company of friends and neighbors on the second Thursday of each month. Popcorn, candy, bottled water and soda are available. Donations will be accepted to benefit the LGBTQ Resource Center. Feel free to bring your own “brown bag” supper and beverages.
Each film begins at 7pm in the Friends Room at Gulfport Public Library (5501 28th Avenue South). Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Licensing restrictions prohibit explicitly naming the titles of films in public press releases. But feel free to call the Library at (727) 893-1074 for the film title and other information about the film series. Or find titles and more information at the Library’s Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/GulfportLibraryFL.
About the July 13th film: This “broad comedy” stars wise-cracking RuPaul’s Drag Race season six winner Bianca Del Rio (Roy Haylock), as school teacher Richard, fired from his job in a small Texas town after community members discover he is gay. He returns “in disguise” as his drag persona Bianca to wreak havoc on those who have discriminated against him. Also starring Rachel Dratch, Alan Cumming, Margaret Cho, Lola Botha and RuPaul. (Not rated)
Save the date for the next film in the monthly series: Thursday, August 10th. In this independent Canadian film, a closeted Newfoundland teen named Oscar (Connor Jessup) dreams of becoming a special-effects makeup artist, and is terrified of his macho father finding out the truth about his sexuality. When Oscar falls for Wilder (Aliocha Schneider), a handsome and worldly co-worker at the hardware store, he is forced to confront his fears.
Watch for announcements of other films as they are added to the series on the second Thursday of each month.
