GULFPORT, FLORIDA: Poppy Champlin brings her Provincetown brew of stand-up comedy, improvisation and serious vocal talent to Gulfport on January 27 for a SATURDAY AFTERNOON DELIGHT you won’t forget!
Poppy has been featured on Oprah, the Showtime Special Pride, One-Night Stand-up (LOGO), Entertainment Tonight and the Chicago Gay Games, and has earned rave reviews on Olivia and Atlantis cruises. She is an alumna of Chicago’s Second City Improv and a winner of the Joan Rivers America’s Funniest Woman award. She has been called the “Original Queer Queen of Comedy!”
“She walks on stage looking urban cool and she begins rolling out the jokes. She starts slow, sure, moves on to staccato, and hits on all cylinders. She spits out jokes, quips, songs, impressions, interactions, and bird calls. With deep resources to draw from, all of Champlin’s shows can be described as spin art, ‘No two alike.’” (Laugh Factory)
Warning: Poppy takes on current events and other life absurdities through an adult lesbian’s eyes. Buyer discretion advised for small children and other “sheltered souls.”
Showtime is 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27 at the Catherine Hickman Theater (5501 27th Avenue South). Tickets are $20 suggested donation per person for general admission (with doors opening at 1:30 p.m.). A limited number of special Early Access tickets are available at $25 suggested donation per person, including entry to the theater one hour early at 1 p.m., an hors d’oeuvre reception and preferred seating. A cash bar offering premium wines, as well as beer and other beverages will be offered to all. Tickets are available at the Gulfport Casino (5500 Shore Boulevard) and Gulfport Beach Bazaar (3115 Beach Boulevard South).
The show is presented by and benefits the Gulfport Public Library’s LGBTQ Resource Center. The Resource Center provides collections, services and events throughout the year to the local LGBTQ community, its friends and family, and is a project of the non-profit Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library.
