GULFPORT, FLORIDA: Elizabeth Sims, Contributing Editor for Writer’s Digest magazine and author of You’ve Got a Book in You: A Stress-Free Guide to Writing the Book of Your Dreams, will lead a “Fearless Writing” workshop on Sunday, February 18 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Gulfport Public Library, 5501 28th Avenue South in Gulfport, Florida. Sims is also author of the Lambda Award-winning Lillian Byrd crime series and the Rita Farmer mystery series. The workshop is open to all genders, as well as both aspiring and experienced writers. Advanced registration and payment of a $15 fee are required for the workshop, which includes a complimentary light breakfast at 9.00am. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.mygulfport.us/lgbtq-resources. Spaces are limited. Only cash, checks or money orders will be accepted.
Writers commonly think they must suffer through much fear and doubt to produce anything good. Elizabeth Sims’ experience—and thus her message—is the opposite: Writing is easy and fun, provided we get out of our own way and let our natural talent and creativity take over. In this energizing workshop, she’ll help you find the heart of the book you want to write and convey your story zestfully and truly. You’ll learn how to work out a plan and start writing immediately, whether your book is fact or fiction. Writers with books in progress will find gold here too, because Elizabeth will provide tools every writer can use at any stage of a project.
The wisdom she’ll share is based on her own experience—and that of other storytellers dating back to prehistory. You’ll learn how to cut through angst and overcomplication with a better way to brainstorm; you’ll see how professionals power through a first draft; you’ll gain new perspectives with her Heart-Clutching Moment Plotting Method (works every time, plus it’s fun); you’ll discover how tangents can be the keys to fresh, great material; and more. Spare yourself untold writing hassle and join Elizabeth for this dynamic workshop.
The workshop is one activity in a full weekend during the inaugural “ReadOut” event which features 16 published authors reading from their work. Other ReadOut activities which are free and open to all include a reception on Friday evening; a keynote address by Elizabeth Sims on Saturday morning as well as a full day of readings, book signings and sales; and a panel discussion on Sunday following the workshop.
ReadOut is produced by the LGBTQ Resource Center, a project of the non-profit Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Public Library.
